President Nikos Christodoulides held discussions with representatives of the American Jewish Committee (AJC) on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York. The meetings focused on reinforcing Cyprus’ strategic influence in the eastern Mediterranean, deepening Cyprus-US relations, and advancing regional cooperation.

Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis confirmed via a post on X that Cyprus is actively "strengthening its strategic footprint in the eastern Mediterranean." He highlighted the importance of trilateral cooperation involving Cyprus, Greece, and Israel. Additionally, efforts to promote the Eastern Mediterranean Gateway Act, which builds upon the existing Eastern Mediterranean Energy and Security Cooperation Act, were a key point of discussion.

During his engagements, President Christodoulides also updated the AJC on recent developments concerning the Cyprus problem and ongoing initiatives aimed at restarting negotiations under the auspices of the United Nations.

In a separate meeting, President Christodoulides met with Dr. Sultan Al Jaber, the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology, who also serves as the managing director and group CEO of ADNOC. According to Letymbiotis, this discussion centered on the Republic of Cyprus’ energy strategies and the United Arab Emirates’ interest in expanding its presence within Cyprus’ energy sector. Prospects for collaborative participation in significant regional energy projects were also explored.

The spokesman further emphasized that these developments underscore Cyprus’ growing role as a reliable energy partner in the eastern Mediterranean, thereby creating new opportunities for cooperation and investment.
